Heroes are jerks.

You're at home, sitting on your couch. You're enjoying a nice book, and you look up to admire the rare pottery collection you spent years collecting, and hundreds of dollars on. All of the sudden, your door is kicked open, a strange boy with weird clothes walks in, and smashes all your pots with his sword. He talks to you, and you're too scared to do anything, so you just give him advice. He walks around the rest of your house, takes all your money and valuables, and leaves. This is the life of a citizen of any RPG game. Zelda, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, you name it: you walk into some poor person's house and destroy their most prized possesions, all for like, ten bucks. Say what you will, but heroes are jerks.
